India is a major agricultural country. Farmers are our food givers. If the economic base of the farmers is strong, the economic development of the country and the state will be accelerated. Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said this while inaugurating MSP programme at Madhab bari government food warehouse in Jirania sub-division on 11 July, 2023 The Food Minister also said on the occasion that earlier paddy was not purchased from farmers at MSP in our state.
After the present government came to power in the state in 2018, procurement of paddy from farmers at subsidized prices has started. The farmers of the state are benefiting from this programme of the government and the farmers are also encouraged
On the occasion, the Food Minister said that the government is buying puddy from farmers twice a year. As a result, farmers are benefiting financially. The Food Minister said that the central and state governments have taken various steps to double the income of farmers. In PM-Kisan scheme, farmers are being given financial assistance of Rs 6,000 in 3 instalments per year.
Special Secretary of the Food Department Ravel Hemendra Kumar informed in the programme that purchase of paddy at subsidized price from farmers in the state has started from 11 July, 2023. This programme will run in 32 places of the state. Paddy will be purchased from farmers at the rate of 2,040 rupees per quintal Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department Sharadindu Das spoke among others on the occasion, Additional Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Jirania Sub-Division Sushanta Debbarma delivered the welcome speech.
Chairman of Jirania Panchayat Samiti Manju Das and Additional Director of Food Department Animesh Debbarma were present on the occasion. Vice Chairman of Jirania Panchayat Samiti Pritam Debnath presided over the programme.
This programme has been initiated by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. In this programme, paddy will be purchased from the farmers at a subsidized price till July 15 in Madhab bari government food warehouse.
