Agartala, Monday: Laid-off Community Health Guide (CHG) workers staged a public sit-in near the Circuit House on Monday, pressing for reinstatement and social security benefits.
The protesters said they also submitted a deputation to the Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department on the same day, outlining their demands.
According to the agitators, they were abruptly removed from service through a notification issued on November 1, 2025. Many of the affected workers are reportedly above 60 years of age.
They alleged that no retirement benefits or social security measures have been arranged for them following their termination.
Expressing resentment over the decision, the protesters demanded immediate withdrawal of the layoff order and reinstatement of the terminated workers. They further demanded pension benefits or appropriate social security support for those who have already been removed from service.
The agitating workers warned that if their demands are not fulfilled at the earliest, they would intensify their movement in the coming days.
