AGARTALA: Former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has strongly criticized the state government over the deteriorating power situation in Tripura, alleging that the public is paying the price for poor administration in the electricity sector.

Addressing the issue, Sarkar emphasized that Tripura has no inherent shortage of power. He noted that due to long-term planning and strategic initiatives undertaken during the former Left Front government, Tripura had achieved the status of a power-surplus state, even supplying electricity to neighboring states in the northeastern region.

However, Sarkar raised severe concerns over the current state of local infrastructure and distribution. He questioned why adequate attention is not being directed toward essential maintenance, such as upgrading power lines, setting up poles, and strengthening the distribution system within the state.
