Agartala, Jan — The police achieved a major breakthrough on Wednesday in connection with the seizure of a large quantity of Phensedyl syrup from a train at Jirania, with the arrest of the main mastermind, Deep Prakash Gupta, from Uttar Pradesh.
According to police sources, Gupta, a resident of Delhi, is linked to an international drug trafficking network. After his arrest, he was brought to the state for further interrogation.
Officials said several crucial leads have emerged during the investigation following the recovery of the contraband from a railway wagon. So far, four persons have been arrested in the case.
Police believe that more names may surface during the interrogation of the accused. However, Apu Das, who is reportedly absconding in Bangladesh, is yet to be apprehended.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch has intensified the investigation to uncover the entire network involved in the smuggling operation.
