Agartala, July 20: With only two days left for the commencement of the historic Kharchi Mela, the Chaturdasha Devata Temple at Khayerpur has been without electricity since Saturday night, causing inconvenience to devotees and saints staying on the temple premises.
The prolonged power outage has left the temple in darkness, with several saints reportedly facing difficulties due to the lack of basic facilities. It has been alleged that despite informing the concerned authorities about the problem, no effective steps have yet been taken by the Kharchi Mela Committee or the power department to restore the electricity supply.

Local residents have expressed dissatisfaction over the preparations for this year’s Kharchi Mela, alleging that the arrangements have been marked by negligence and apathy from the very beginning. They said the ongoing power crisis at the temple reflects the inadequate preparations ahead of one of Tripura’s most significant religious festivals.
The locals have urged the authorities to restore power immediately and ensure all necessary arrangements are in place before the fair begins.
