Pranab Sarkar Lodges Complaint with Press Council Against Ram Prasad Paul

Agartala, April 23: In a significant development, Pranab Sarkar, editor of Headline Tripura, has filed a formal complaint with the Press Council of India against Ramprasad Pal, Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, over alleged false and baseless accusations against journalists in the state. The complaint was submitted online earlier today.

According to reports, Ramprasad Pal had recently made derogatory remarks against the media fraternity, claiming that “two-penny journalists are earning billions.” He also allegedly made multiple unsubstantiated allegations targeting journalists in Tripura.

In response, members of the journalistic community approached the Chief Minister seeking intervention. Despite this, Pal reportedly continued to issue baseless accusations and complaints against local journalists.

Taking strong exception to these repeated attacks, Pranab Sarkar moved the Press Council seeking appropriate action and filed an application for a charge sheet against Pal. Notably, this marks the first-ever complaint filed at the Press Council of India against a sitting Deputy Speaker of a State Legislative Assembly.

It is worth mentioning that during the previous Left regime, Journalists had faced derogatory remarks, being referred to as “toilet paper.” In that instance, Pranab Sarkar had also filed a case in the Press Council, which Shri Sarkar eventually won after a prolonged legal battle.
