Rathindra Basu has been elected unopposed as the new Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly. Representing Cooch Behar South as a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA, he assumes the position for the first time after his maiden victory in the Assembly elections.
The election was conducted this morning under the supervision of Pro-tem Speaker Tapas Roy, and the House confirmed his appointment through a voice vote.
