Section of sacked teachers to go on hunger strike from Oct 20

On Saturday, a section of 10,323 teachers gave an ultimatum to the state government and declared to go on a hunger strike from October 20 if the state government further ignores their demands.

Pradip Banik is considered to be very close to the ruling BJP party, as he openly defended the Tripura government on several occasions whenever the Opposition tried to pressurise the government regarding 10,323 teachers.

However, when Pradip Banik led the organisation of the sacked teachers in agitation mode, it brought a new twist, as sacked teachers threatened to go in hunger strike.

Banik said that they met Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on September 28 and CM was supposed to call them again after consultation with legal experts to find a solution.

Banik added that CM assured them that after Durga Puja, the meeting will take place but no calls are received even after Laxmi Puja.

He said that three of their colleagues died in the last couple of days. A total of 142 teachers died because of uncertainty and depression regarding their jobs and the loss of income. Some people even died by suicide.

He added, “We are left with no other option in this situation but to take a drastic step forgetting all the political differences within the organisations and protest for the rights of 10,323 teachers”.
