Keeping in mind the larger interests of the farmers of the state, the State Department of Food and Public Procurement and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in a joint initiative has set a target of direct purchase of 35,000 metric tonnes of paddy for the current Rabi season from farmers at a minimum support price of 2040 rupees per quintal from July 11, 2023.
A farmer can sell a maximum of 50 quintals of paddy. Farmers who wish to sell paddy at 40 paddy buying centers across the state will be able to sell their produced paddy by contacting the nearest agriculture department office or sub-divisional governor’s office (food department) from July 11.
Tripura’s Food and Public Procurement Minister Sushanta Chowdhury held an important meeting through video conference with all the sub-divisional magistrates of Tripura and senior officials of the Food and Agriculture Department at the Secretariat’s video conference hall on Monday afternoon to review the preparations for this.
Minister Chowdhury said, “Our farmer-friendly state government is purchasing paddy directly from the farmers every year to benefit the farmers. Paddy is being purchased every season to increase the stock of food grains in the country and state and to control the market price.”
He added that purchase instructions have been given to each district and sub-division this year to implement that goal.
The Food Minister gave necessary instructions to the officials to ensure that farmers are not harassed in any way while selling paddy.
He also said that even a farmer should not be forced to sell paddy at a price less than the minimum support price.
The Food Minister gave necessary advice and instructions to the officials for the smooth completion of the entire process.
