The Tipra Indigenous Students Federation has started its indefinite road and rail blockade in Tripura today demanding the use of Roman script for answering Kokborok papers.
They are demanding the incorporation of the Roman script for writing the Kokborok subject in board exams.
In a press briefing, TISF President Sajra Debbarma mentioned that initially, Dr. Dhananjay Gan Chowdhury, the President of the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE), permitted students to write the Kokborok subject exam using either the Roman or Bengali script for board exams.
The call for the blockade came after TBSE President Dr. Dhananjoy Gonchowdhury on Thursday reversed his decision regarding the language preference for examination and said that it would be mandatory to answer Kokborak subjects solely in Bengali script.
Debbarma remarked, “The TBSE President assured us that students could utilize either the Roman or Bengali script for exams. We have documentation showing that the Roman or Bengali script has been used in previous instances.
