Agartala, Oct 9: A six-member delegation of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) arrived in Tripura on Wednesday to assess the situation following the alleged vandalism at the party’s state headquarters in Agartala on Tuesday.
The delegation included West Bengal Forest Minister Birbaha Hansda, TMC MPs Pratima Mondal, Sushmita Dev, and Saayoni Ghosh, TMC spokesperson and West Bengal state general secretary Kunal Ghosh, and party leader Sudeep Raha.
As soon as the team landed at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, a commotion reportedly broke out. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh alleged that three out of the four vehicles arranged to receive them were turned back by authorities. He further claimed that the delegation was not allowed to use prepaid taxis or auto-rickshaws.
In protest, the TMC leaders staged a dharna at the airport premises, accusing the BJP of attempting to obstruct their visit. The delegation members later decided to walk to the party’s state office; however, after prolonged discussions, they eventually departed for the Trinamool Congress State Headquarters in Agartala by car.
The visit comes a day after alleged attacks on the TMC state office in Agartala, reportedly carried out by BJP supporters, sparking political tension in the state.
