Agartala, June 10:
In a significant step towards promoting public health and clean tourism, the Sipahijala district administration has declared three areas of the district as tobacco-free zones. The decision, taken under the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, was announced by District Magistrate Dr. Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal.
According to an official notification issued by the office of the District Magistrate, the areas declared tobacco-free are Nirmahal, Sipahijala Sanctuary, and Kasba Kalibari. The ban has been enforced from May 30 this year.
The sale and consumption of cigarettes, narcotics, or any form of tobacco products have been strictly prohibited in these areas. Violators will face legal action as per the provisions of the law.
The district administration has appealed to the public and tourists to cooperate in maintaining a healthy, clean, and tobacco-free environment in these designated zones.
