TRANSFORMING VOCATIONAL EDUCATION: Agreement Signing Between Department of Industries & Commerce and Tata Technologies for Upgradation of 19 ITIs

The Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Tripura, in partnership with Tata Technologies Limited (TTL), is set to embark on a transformative journey to upgrade 19 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the State. This initiative aims to bridge the skills gap in emerging technology sectors by modernizing training facilities, introducing advanced courses, and significantly enhancing the employability of ITI graduates. Designed to align with Industry 4.0 standards and the evolving global technology landscape, the project aspires to establish these ITIs as state-of-the-art centres of excellence.

To further commemorate this landmark collaboration, the Department of Industries & Commerce and TTL is holding a ceremonial signing event on November 20, 2024 in august presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura, the Hon’ble Minister of Industries & Commerce, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Industries & Commerce, and the Chief Secretary of Tripura, reflecting the state government’s commitment to the initiative. This event will bring together senior government officials, TTL representatives, industry leaders, and educators to celebrate the shared vision of empowering Tripura’s youth with advanced technical skills.

Key Highlights of the Initiative

1. Collaboration with Tata Technologies Limited

  • Comprehensive Upgrades: TTL will lead the ITI transformation by integrating cutting-edge equipment like CNC machines, AR/VR tools, industrial automation systems, and electric vehicle diagnostic kits.
  • Joint Certification and Industry Alignment: Certificates will be co-issued by the Government and TTL, along with its partner industries, offering students a competitive edge in the job market.
  • Technical Support: TTL will provide technical support and trainer deployment for three years, ensuring seamless adoption of new technologies and methodologies.

2. Focus Areas

  • Advanced Training Centres: Establishing specialized facilities like the Product Design and Development Centre, Electric Vehicle Training Centre, and Advanced Machining and Manufacturing Centre, equipped with tools like 3D printers, robotic simulations, and IoT devices.
  • Emerging Industry Needs: Introducing courses in high-demand sectors, such as Electric Vehicle Mechanics, Automation, IoT Technology, and CNC Operations.
  • Soft Skills Development: Enhancing communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills for holistic student development.

3. Long-Term Benefits

  • Economic Growth: The initiative will contribute to sustainable economic development by creating a skilled workforce and attracting industrial investments to Tripura.
  • Employment Opportunities: Strengthened placement support will connect students with potential employers, ensuring smoother transitions from training to the workforce.
  • Regional Competitiveness: By positioning Tripura as a model for technical education, the program aims to establish the state as an industrial hub.

4. Investment and Phased Implementation

  • Cost Sharing: The project will cost Rs. 683.278 crores, with an 86:14 funding ratio between TTL and the Government of Tripura. [TTL Share (86%) of Rs. 570,40,04,744 and State Govt. Share (14%) of Rs. 112,87,75,256]
  • Infrastructure Development: The government will invest Rs. 109.06 crores to build advanced centres spanning 13,500 sq. ft., accommodating state-of-the-art equipment.

5. Students Placement

TTL will assist in establishment of a placement cell, on lines like institutes of national repute, that is student led and guided by the dedicated trainers towards establishing industry connect from the beginning of the academic year. TTL will assist in 100% placement of Trainees after successful completion of training, by providing available Job opportunities through its industry Connect.

This landmark partnership with Tata Technologies reflects Tripura’s commitment to fostering innovation, skill development, and industrial growth. The ceremonial signing on November 20, 2024, will serve as a testament to the potential of public-private collaboration in transforming vocational education and empowering the state’s youth to thrive in a rapidly changing global economy.
