Agartala, Aug 11: Pradesh Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty on Sunday alleged that the ruling BJP is attempting to deprive opposition supporters of their voting rights through the SIR process during the ongoing revision of the voter list.
Addressing a press conference at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala, Chakraborty claimed that the BJP has influenced the functioning of the Election Commission to serve its own interests. He cited Bihar as an example, where, according to him, names of 65 lakh voters—mainly from minority, Scheduled Caste, OBC, poor and working-class communities—have been omitted from the draft voter list.
He further alleged that none of the elections in Tripura since 2018 have been free or fair, with large numbers of voters unable to cast their ballots. Accusing the SIR process of being in “deep cooperation” with the BJP, Chakraborty warned that the people of the country would not accept such actions.
He urged citizens to unite and protest against the alleged irregularities, saying that public faith in the government is rapidly eroding.
