On Wednesday, the Tripura Congress conducted a silent protest called ‘Maun Satyagraha’ in support of party leader Rahul Gandhi, who was disqualified from the Lok Sabha.
Prominent leaders including AICC secretary Zarita Laitphlang, MLA Sudip Roy Barman and PCC president Asish Kumar Saha participated in the protest held at Gandhighat.
Notably, Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha occurred in March 2022 following his conviction in a 2019 criminal defamation case by a Surat court in Gujarat.
On July 7, the Gujarat High Court rejected Rahul Gandhi’s request for a stay on his conviction in the criminal defamation case related to his “Modi surname” comment.
Laitphlang told reporters that the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi, who has been dedicatedly serving the people, has left the entire nation in shock.
Sudip Roy Barman accused that a fascist power is governing the country and claimed that a conspiracy was orchestrated against Gandhi following his speech in Parliament.
He added, “For speaking the truth, Gandhi was disqualified as Member of Parliament. We have faith in the judiciary. We hope Rahulji will get justice from the Supreme Court.”
Barman added that the government led by the BJP has deprived the people of their democratic rights and has shown no hesitation in employing central agencies like the CBI, Income Tax and ED to apprehend individuals who criticize the government.
