Tributes were paid today to the late Director General of Police of the state, Anurag Dhankar, at the Secretariat and at the Police Headquarters. Following this, the mortal remains of the late DGP were flown by special aircraft to his birthplace at Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh. His last rites will be performed there.

To pay tribute to the late Director General of Police Anurag Dhyankar, his mortal remains were brought to the Secretariat this morning. Floral tributes were paid one by one by Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, Agriculture Minister Ratanlal Nath, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Cooperation Minister Shuklacharan Noatia, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Vrishaketu Debbarma, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation and MLA Dipak Majumder, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and Chief Secretary Jitendra Kumar Sinha.

Tributes were also paid by Principal Secretary Shantanu, Secretary to the Chief Minister Kiran Gitte, OSD Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee, along with secretaries of various departments, officials of the Police Department, and District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from various districts.

After paying tribute to the late DGP, Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha, speaking to journalists, said that Anurag Dhankar’s role in improving law and order in the state had been highly commendable.

During his tenure, the state’s law and order situation reached a notable position of which the country could be proud. His death is an irreparable loss for the Police Department.

Besides serving the state Police Department, he had also successfully discharged various responsibilities entrusted to him by the Central Government. He was an extremely gentle and dignified person. The Chief Minister said that his last conversation with the late Anurag had taken place on July 18. He told journalists that there were no words to express his feelings about this sudden demise. He further said that as soon as he received news of the death yesterday, he had rushed to the Police Headquarters along with the Chief Secretary and other secretaries.

In response to a journalist’s question, the Chief Minister said that the government would take all lawful measures to ascertain the true facts surrounding the late Anurag’s death. He also conveyed his deep condolences to the bereaved family members of the late Anurag in this difficult time.

The mortal remains of the late Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar were first brought to the Police Headquarters this morning. There, floral tributes were paid by Home Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, Officiating DGP G.S. Rao, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, along with senior officials of the Police Department.

Following this, a guard of honour was accorded to the late Director General of Police by the State Police. The mortal remains were then taken to the State Secretariat
