Agartala, September 5: The Tripura State Left Front Committee has called upon the State Election Commission to ensure that the upcoming Autonomous District Council (ADC) Village Committee elections are conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner.
Addressing a press conference at the party office in Melar Math today, Left Front convener Manik Dey stated that a delegation representing five Left organizations submitted a seven-point memorandum to State Chief Electoral Officer Pradeep Chakraborty outlining their key demands.
Key Allegations and Security Demands:
- Obstruction During Nominations: Left Front candidates are allegedly facing severe obstacles from ruling party workers while attempting to file nominations in areas including Paschim, Sepahijala, parts of Khowai district, Mandai, Jirania, Lefunga, Hejamara, and Tulasikhar. Candidates were reportedly blocked from filing nominations in Hejamara yesterday as well.
- Paramilitary Deployment: The memorandum urges the Commission to deploy central paramilitary forces inside and outside polling stations both on and prior to election day.
- Candidate & Agent Protection: The committee demanded full security for candidates following nomination filings and guaranteed protection for opposition polling agents during vote collection and counting.
- Surveillance: The Left Front requested webcasting and scanner arrangements at polling centers to enhance transparency.
The press conference was attended by prominent leaders, including Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) State Secretary Radha Charan Debbarma and RSP leader Raghunath Sarkar.
