On Wednesday, Tripura High Court granted bail to Tapan Debbarma, the prime accused of journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik’s murder over five years back.
However, the court instructed Debbarma to appear before the inquiry officer each week while granting him the bail.
Notably, the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) 2nd battalion’s commandant Debbarma was arrested days after Sudip Datta Bhowmik was shot dead near the officer’s chamber on November 21, 2017.
Senior advocate Pijush Biswas represented the accused in the court, He said that the additional district and session judge granted bail to his client five months ago, but Justice T Amarnath Gour rejected the bail in the high court.
The CBI is investigating the murder case in compliance with the demand made by the journalist community of Tripura.
Then, Debbarma moved the Supreme Court which instructed the High Court to look into the matter afresh.
Thus, the case was raised afresh in the Tripura High Court and Justice Gour considered all the points and granted him bail.
