Tripura to run ‘let’s go to school’ campaign

The Education Department has decided to implement the Earn with Learn project as part of the Lets go school campaign.

Education Minister Ratanlal Nath announced the decision at a press conference in his office on Friday July 8.

The Education Minister said that around 6,750 students of 6 to 14 age in Tripura had dropped out of school as a result of the COVID19 pandemic. Many students are also likely to miss school.

The project is aimed to bring all these students to school and bring them back into the mainstream of education.

The Education Minister said that all the third year students of all the colleges will bring the out-of-school students to the school in this project.

Extensive door-to-door surveys will be conducted to make the campaign successful. Third year college students willing to participate in the survey as volunteers will be requested to register their names in their respective colleges.

The education minister said that Rs. 500 would be paid to volunteers (college students) for identification of school dropouts and inclusion of school dropouts.

The project requires an estimated 10,000 volunteers. Anganwari staff and Asha workers can also be used to assist the third year students in this work.

There is a plan to give Rs. 200 to the teachers who will be involved in this work.
The minister also said that 1,51719 students from pre-primary to third class. The Education Department has decided to provide free school bags to all these students. The state government will have to pay 7 crore 58 lakh 59 thousand 500 rupees for it.

Free textbooks are being provided to class I to VIII students by the education department. The expenditure is 13 crore 36 lakh rupees for it.
In addition, Rs. 600 is being given to each SC, ST, BPL category student from class I to VIII for school uniforms.

All the girls from first to eighth class are also being given 600 rupees for school uniforms. Besides, bicycles are being given to the ninth grade girls of all government schools.
