In a significant recognition of Tripura’s rich cultural heritage, the traditional musical instrument Tripura Sarinda has been awarded the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
The Sarinda, a stringed folk instrument deeply rooted in the traditions of the indigenous communities of the state, is renowned for its distinctive craftsmanship and cultural importance.
The GI certification is expected to play a crucial role in preserving and promoting Tripura’s folk traditions by providing the instrument with national and international recognition.
The recognition will also help safeguard the authenticity of the Sarinda and create better economic opportunities for artisans involved in its production and preservation.
With the inclusion of the Tripura Sarinda, the state now boasts four GI-tagged products. The other products that have received the coveted recognition are Tripura Queen Pineapple, Risa and Pachra (Rignai), and Matabari Peda.
