Belonia: Police have arrested two persons in connection with a pistol recovery incident in the Belonia subdivision of South Tripura district.
The prime accused has been identified as Somen Shil, a resident of the Barapathari area under P.R. Bari police station.
According to police sources, Somen Shil was apprehended along with a motorcycle during a routine checkpoint operation in front of the P.R. Bari police station. His suspicious behaviour prompted the police to conduct a search, during which a pistol was recovered from his possession.
Subsequently, based on information obtained during interrogation, police conducted a search at Somen Shil’s residence and recovered a magazine and two rounds of live ammunition.
Further investigation led to the arrest of another accused, Prasenjit Das, a resident of the Gabtali area under the same police station. During a search of his house, police recovered cash amounting to Rs 5.06 lakh. Police claimed that Prasenjit Das had been involved in such illegal activities for a long time while posing as a doctor and dentist.
Investigations revealed that Somen Shil had procured the pistol from Prasenjit Das’s house. Police suspect that both accused are involved in arms trafficking. The seized motorcycle has also been taken into police custody.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway. Both accused will be produced before the Belonia court on Tuesday, where police will seek their remand.
