Youth detained from Agartala Rly station with 1.5 kg gold

The Government Railway Police (GRP) unit of Agartala railway station detained a youth named Abul Basar with 1.5 kg gold.

An officer of the GRP unit said that the youth is a resident of Sonamura under Sepahijala district.

The officer said that during the preliminary interrogation, the detainee revealed that he was about to travel to Guwahati.

He added that the GRP staff detained him just before departure of Tejas Express.
The officer further said that while checking the detained youth, 1.5 kg gold bar along with Rs. 6710 was found in his possession.
He added that the estimated value of the seized gold is around Rs. 1 crore, which was handed over to Customs.

Police are hopeful that more details would be revealed in further investigation.
Reportedly, human trafficking agents and smugglers are using Agartala railway station as a safe corridor regardless of strict surveillance by the security agencies.
