Agartala, June 2: The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has unveiled a budget of ₹975.91 crore for the financial year 2026-27, with a strong focus on healthcare, urban infrastructure development, sanitation and traffic management. The budget was presented by Mayor Dipak Majumder and marks the first-ever e-budget introduced by the civic body.
According to the budget estimates, AMC expects total receipts of ₹974.93 crore against an expenditure of ₹975.91 crore, resulting in a projected deficit of around ₹97.67 lakh. Despite the deficit, no new taxes have been proposed for city residents.
A major highlight of the budget is the allocation of ₹536.45 crore towards capital expenditure aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure and civic amenities. An additional ₹108 crore has been earmarked for various infrastructure projects across the city. The corporation will also receive ₹167 crore in assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) for road development, drainage upgrades and the construction of a new water treatment plant.
To improve urban mobility and traffic management, the budget includes provisions for road development and other civic infrastructure projects designed to ease congestion and enhance public services. The corporation has also proposed raising ₹100 crore through municipal bonds, a first-of-its-kind initiative for a civic body in the Northeast, to fund the redevelopment and modernization of major city markets.
In the healthcare sector, AMC has announced plans to establish a 50-bed paperless Agartala Civil Hospital that will provide specialist outpatient services during evening hours. The budget also includes measures to improve sanitation, drainage, solid waste management and public health facilities.
Mayor Dipak Majumder said the budget reflects AMC’s commitment to sustainable urban development, improved civic infrastructure and better public services, while ensuring that no additional tax burden is imposed on citizens.
