Biplab Deb Demands International Status and Flights for MBB Airport in Parliament

New Delhi, Dec 4: Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday urged the central government to immediately start international flight services from Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala and officially declare it as an international airport.

Speaking in Parliament, the former Chief Minister highlighted the advanced infrastructure at MBB Airport, including the Instrument Landing System (ILS) and 20 check-in counters, which make it suitable for global operations.

He further informed that the state government has already provided ₹18.85 crore to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for the necessary development works. The airport has the capacity to handle 1,000 domestic passengers and 200 international passengers at a time.

Deb emphasized that all required technical preparations have been completed, and therefore, the airport should be upgraded without delay. He reiterated his demand to operationalize international flights from Agartala at the earliest for the benefit of Tripura and the entire North-Eastern region.
