In a major crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking, the Border Security Force (BSF), in coordination with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), seized 225.81 kilograms of ganja and arrested an Indian smuggler during a joint operation at the Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district, falling under the Guwahati frontier.
The operation, carried out on July 21, 2025, was launched based on credible intelligence inputs indicating illegal stockpiling of ganja for smuggling into Bangladesh. Acting swiftly, personnel from the 78th Battalion of the BSF, the BSF K-9 Squad, and the NCB’s Siliguri Zonal Unit conducted a raid at Singhimari village, located along the international border.
During the operation, the joint team recovered 225.81 kg of ganja from the residence of an Indian national, who was immediately taken into custody. The accused, along with the seized contraband, has been handed over to the NCB for further investigation and legal proceedings.
Authorities said such coordinated operations would continue to counter the persistent threat of narcotics smuggling across the Indo-Bangladesh border.
