Udaipur, Nov 7: A major narcotics bust took place at Udaipur railway station late last night. Two youths, who had arrived by train, were seen wandering suspiciously near the platform. Acting on suspicion, a GRP constable stationed there searched their bags and discovered a large quantity of heroin and other narcotic substances.
Following interrogation, the railway police arrested a third person in connection with the case. On receiving the information, the Additional Superintendent of Police of Gomati district rushed to the railway station to oversee the operation.
Police sources said the two arrested youths have been identified as Sajmul Islam and Farid Akhtar, who were reportedly bringing the narcotics from Assam. The third accused, Salim Uddin, a BSFA employee, was later apprehended based on their statements.
The market value of the seized narcotics is estimated to be several lakhs of rupees. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and have launched a detailed investigation.
