On Thursday, the BJP’s Tripura unit ousted ex-MLA Arun Chandra Bhowmik for six years, accusing him of engaging in activities against the party.

This action followed Bhowmik’s meeting with Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee chief Asish Kumar Saha at the Congress Bhavan.

Arun Bhowmik’s statements also cleared his intentions of joining the Congress in coming days.

The BJP media in-charge Sunit Sakar said that such anti-party conduct of Arun Chandra Bhowmik and breach of BJP’s party discipline led to his immediate expulsion.

A press release issued on behalf of the party read, “Following the violation of party principles, values, ideologies and for conducting anti- party activities, Arun Chandra Bhowmik, former MLA and invited member of State Committee has been expelled from the party for six years”.
