Dima Hasao (Assam), July 8: Railway services through the Lumding-Badarpur hill section faced another major setback after a fresh landslide struck between Dihakho and Mupa stations late Sunday night. The landslide, reported at the 50/2 km mark, brought train operations to a standstill in the vulnerable Dima Hasao region.
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) swiftly responded to the disruption by issuing a notification announcing the cancellation, rescheduling, and partial cancellation of several trains for July 7 and the following days. Help desks have been set up at key stations, including Guwahati, Kamakhya, Lumding, New Haflong, Badarpur, Silchar, and Agartala to provide assistance to passengers. Additionally, food has been arranged for stranded travellers at various points.
Heavy and continuous rainfall has rendered the hill stretch prone to frequent mudslides and falling boulders. The situation worsened further on July 5 when fresh mudslides disrupted rail traffic in the same zone, compounding the challenges faced by the railway authorities.
Officials from the NFR stated that restoration work is underway, but the persistent adverse weather conditions are making the task extremely difficult.
