Agartala, Feb 23: In yet another incident of rising street crime in the capital, miscreants snatched a gold chain from a man in broad daylight at Ramnagar area No. 6 under West Agartala Police Station.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 11:16 am when two youths arrived in front of a shop on a motorcycle. One of them was wearing a black T-shirt, while the other was dressed in a T-shirt and helmet. Another motorcycle with a rider wearing a full-face helmet was seen waiting on the road. A fourth youth, reportedly wearing a black hat, stood in front of the shop.
The accused initially engaged the victim in conversation on the pretext of purchasing items from the shop. Taking advantage of the situation, two of the youths suddenly snatched the gold Chain from the victim’s neck and fled the scene on their motorcycle.
The entire operation was carried out within moments, leaving the victim and bystanders shocked.
The incident took place just minutes away from the Ramnagar Outpost, West Agartala Police Station, and even the State Police Headquarters. Notably, the capital city is under extensive CCTV surveillance. Despite this, the daring daylight robbery has raised serious concerns about the prevailing law and order situation.
Local residents alleged that multiple snatching incidents have occurred on the same road and in the surrounding areas in the past. However, they claim that the recovery rate and follow-up action in such cases by the West Agartala Police have been unsatisfactory.
With robberies reportedly increasing in the small city of Agartala, the latest incident has once again sparked public debate over police vigilance and the effectiveness of preventive measures. Citizens are now questioning how long such incidents will continue and when stricter action will be taken to curb the growing menace of street crime in the capital.
