Tripura Student Brutally Assaulted in Gurugram, Live-In Partner Arrested

A 19-year-old student from Tripura is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi after allegedly facing brutal physical and mental torture at the hands of her live-in partner in Gurugram. The accused, identified as Shivam, a resident of Delhi, has been arrested by the police following the survivor’s complaint.

Met Through Dating App, Relationship Turned Violent. According to the FIR registered on the basis of the survivor’s statement, the young woman had moved from Tripura to Gurugram to pursue a BSc in Biotechnology at a private university. She was staying at a paying guest accommodation in Sector 69.

In September 2025, she connected with Shivam, through a dating application. The two began meeting regularly, and their relationship soon progressed into a live-in arrangement. Shivam, who hails from Delhi’s Narela area, was reportedly staying with his sister and was searching for employment at the time.

The survivor told police that the couple had even discussed marriage. However, tensions reportedly escalated when Shivam began suspecting her of infidelity, leading to repeated instances of physical and emotional abuse.

In her statement, the 19-year-old alleged that on February 16, following an argument, Shivam violently assaulted her. She claimed he struck her on the head with a steel bottle and an earthen pot, smashed her head against a wall, and poured sanitiser on her private parts before attempting to set her on fire.

She further alleged that he cut her legs with a knife and threatened to injure her so severely that she would never be able to walk or bear children. The survivor has also accused him of recording nude videos to blackmail her.

Two days after the alleged assault, on the night of February 18, the young woman managed to call her mother using the accused’s phone. Speaking in Bengali, which Shivam did not understand, she described her ordeal and pleaded for help, reportedly saying, “If you want to see me alive, come and find me.”
Following the complaint, police intervened and arrested the accused. The survivor’s family has demanded strict legal action and exemplary punishment for the accused. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
