Two accidents happened during Rath Yatras in South Tripura and Gomati District on Friday.
The crest of a Jaggannath Dev chariot got loose and suddenly fell on the crowd of devotees when it stuck in the cable wire.
The incident happened at Udaipur in Gomati district. Two women and one man were severely injured by the crest. They were taken to Gomati District Hospital.
Many others also received minor injuries.
Disaster management volunteers and Red Cross volunteers rushed to the spot and shifted everyone to safety.
The name of only one woman was identified (Minu Rani Saha) who got a severe head injury.
Another incident happened at Debdaru village in the Shantirbazaar subdivision of South Tripura.
An elephant pulling the Lord Jagannath Dev’s chariot panicked, become aggressive and started running madly.
Due to sudden running of the elephant, Lord Jagannath along with people in the chariot overturned along with the chariot.
A police officer in Debdaru, Joynal Hossain, said the incident occurred at 5.30pm.
He said that an injured constable, Dipal Kanti Dutta (58), was taken to the Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital at Agartala for treatment of the hand injuries.
Besides, two children, Nilesh Sarkar (10) and Rahul Debnath (15) were injured. They were discharged after preliminary treatment from a primary health centre.
Former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said (via Twitter) that he has been deeply shocked by the injuries of three devotees at Udaipur after the Rath crest fell down.
He also said that he is praying for the speedy recovery of the injured person to Lord Jagannath.
