It is reported that the National Highway 44 connecting Tripura with Silchar has collapsed terribly on Friday morning.
The highway extension at Poamara near Karimganj town in South Assam was damaged by accumulated rainwater on both sides of the road during heavy rain and eventually collapsed.
Therefore, presently the road is closed for all kinds of vehicular traffic movements with immediate effect until further order.
PWD officials related to NH maintenance said that an alternative route from Baba Hotel to Poamara via Karimganj along the existing road NH-44 has been opened.
The traffic coming from Tripura will follow the existing NH-44 from Poamara junction through the existing single-lane Poamara Bridge and then to Baba Hotel via Karimganj town.
All the traffic coming from the Badarpur towards Tripura will follow the existing NH-44 from Baba Hotel to Poamara via Karimganj Town.
Then the traffic will follow Karimganj Bypass via Poamara-Kaliganj PWD Road.
