BISHRAMGANJ: In a major breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, the Bishramganj Police foiled a smuggling attempt and seized a large quantity of ganja being transported under the guise of a routine passenger auto-rickshaw. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.
According to police sources, the seizure was made during a routine vehicular interception on the Ramnagar Pagli Bari Road. Officers on duty flagged down a passenger auto-rickshaw for inspection. Upon searching the vehicle, law enforcement personnel discovered a massive cache of ganja concealed inside.
The driver, identified as Deepak Sarkar, was immediately taken into custody. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bikash Sinha rushed to the spot to oversee the initial proceedings and coordinate the operation.
Preliminary interrogation of the accused revealed that the contraband was sourced from the Lalsingmura area and was intended for smuggling into other states. Both the recovered narcotics and the auto-rickshaw have been seized and transferred to the local police station.
“We are currently in the process of registering a formal case against the accused under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,” a senior police official stated.
