AGARTALA: A massive power outage has left a vast area of Ramnagar Road No. 4 in complete darkness after a major distribution transformer failed last night.
The incident has triggered widespread resentment among local residents, who took to the streets in protest against the electricity department’s alleged negligence.
The sudden and complete disruption of the power supply has caused immense hardships for the local population. With the region currently experiencing grueling hot and humid weather, the prolonged blackout has severely impacted vulnerable groups, particularly children, the elderly, and the sick.
According to local sources, the transformer had been malfunctioning and showing technical glitches for a prolonged period. Residents alleged that despite bringing the issue to the notice of the electricity department multiple times, no permanent corrective measures or maintenance work were carried out. The sustained negligence ultimately culminated in the total breakdown of the transformer last night.
Furious over the lack of administrative action, a large group of residents staged a demonstration on the streets late last night. The protestors raised slogans against the electricity board and blocked the thoroughfare, demanding either the immediate repair of the faulty equipment or the urgent installation of a brand-new transformer to restore normalcy to the area.
Local authorities and electricity department officials are yet to issue an official statement regarding when the power supply will be fully restored.
