Madhupur, Saturday: Acting on a specific tip-off, a large police team led by Officer-in-Charge of Madhupur Police Station, Debajit Chatterjee, conducted a late-night raid at the residence of Pintu Dey in Harihardola Uttarpara on Saturday.

During the operation, a woman identified as Swapna Das, an associate of Pintu Dey, allegedly attempted to flee the scene with sacks containing marijuana. However, she was apprehended by the police red-handed. Upon further search of the premises, police recovered three additional sacks of dried marijuana from her house.

According to police sources, a total of four sacks of marijuana were seized during the raid, with an estimated market value of over ₹2 lakh.

However, the house owner and prime accused, Pintu Dey, managed to escape during the operation and is currently absconding. Police have launched a search to trace his whereabouts.

In a related search operation in the same area, police also recovered expensive sarees reportedly worth over ₹10 lakh. An investigation is underway to determine the source and ownership of the seized items.
