National Executive Meeting of Indian Journalists Union Held at Agartala

The two-day meeting of the All India Working Committee of the Indian Journalists Union began after the completion of the biennial conference of the Tripura State Committee of the Indian Journalists Union.

For the first time in the state, the meeting of the executive committee of the union is being conducted.

Journalists from different states of the country came to the state to participate in this meeting.
Tripura’s Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy officially inaugurated the two-day working committee meeting at Agartala Press Club conference hall on Sunday.

Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder, All India Journalists Union President Geetarath Pathak, Secretary Pranab Sarkar, Union’s General Secretary and Sabina Indrajit and many others were present on the occasion.

While inaugurating the meeting, Minister Roy said, “The media has a special place in the society. The workers associated with the news media i.e. journalists are known as intellectuals of the society as they guide the society. Therefore, the media is called a pillar of democracy.”

He added that a two-day working meeting of such an organisation would lead to many good decisions, which will help move society forward.

The Minister further said, “The present government of the state is on the side of the media. Many people in the state are involved in this profession. In the era of social media, the media is now the source of income for thousands of youth.”
