Nepal: Gen Z demonstrators set the Supreme Court, Special Court, and Kathmandu District Courts on fire today.

Amid violent protests in Nepal, former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s wife Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar died after their house was set on fire, reports said on Tuesday.

According to Nirajan Pandey, Assistant Spokesperson for the Supreme Court, the demonstrators carried out arson and vandalism at the courts.

The mob also vandalized and set the Office of the Auditor General on fire.

In Nepal, the death toll from the Gen Z protests against corruption and the government’s social media ban has climbed to 19, while more than 340 people have been injured across the country in clashes between protesters and police. Police fired bullets when the demonstration of Gen Z turned violent in Baneshwor of Kathmandu. According to reports, 16 of the deceased were in Kathmandu Valley and two were in Itahari.

The injured people include protesters, security personnel, and journalists. Authorities said the identities of the deceased and many injured are yet to be confirmed.

The Ministry of Health earlier instructed hospitals to provide free treatment to all injured protesters. Meanwhile, curfew orders have been issued in several parts of the country to contain unrest. The Gen Z protest has spread beyond Kathmandu, with large demonstrations reported in Biratnagar, Chitwan, Jhapa, and Rupandehi, many of which have turned confrontational.
