Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today made it clear the government would not allow anybody to take law on his hand.
“The way a doctor was assaulted by a group of people of victim family in the city, it is highly condemnable and the government will stand by the doctor”, he said while addressing media in his official residence today.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb also added police have already registered a specific case against the attackers with West police station and arrested five persons.
Chief Minister also added Tripura State Government shall not tolerate any person taking the law into their own hands.
If any negligence in duty is found to have been undertaken by the doctors, necessary action will be taken against them but in no case shall the State Government allow anyone to take law into their hands.
We shall undertake all necessary steps to create a secured and conducive environment to ensure that medical professionals in Tripura can undertake their duty in the most diligent manner.
“Even if they have got bail from the court, the advocate general and DGP was asked to move a petition in the District court opposing the bail of five arrested persons”, he said.
Dr. Dipankar Debnath, Gynaecologist in the IGM hospital was attacked by a mob for alleged wrong treatment.
Dr. Debnath was dragged out of his chamber in the hospital and was beaten severely by wooden faggots and other blunt devices.
The private security staff of the hospital tried hard to overcome the situation but it was all the way ill-equipped to tackle the mob frenzy, according to eyewitnesses.
After getting information from the hospital authorities the police officials, reached the spot and recovered him unconscious.
According to police sources, Mampi Das (20) wife of Govinda Das was admitted at IGM with ‘Preterm labour’ but her condition deteriorated and when Doctor informed the family members about critical condition of the patient, Govinda Das along with others started threatening the Doctor. At around 11.45 pm last night, the patient collapsed which aggravated Das further, however, in presence of Police, family members were convinced and left the Hospital. But, the relatives of the deceased started to gather in the hospital premises since last night and carried out the attack in a well planned manner
Five persons were also arrested from the spot.
Entire medical fraternity of the state yesterday broke into protests followed by a scathing attack on an on-duty medical officer at IGM hospital premises.
All doctors’ organizations called for suspension of private practice in the aftermath pitching warnings of mass resignation.
The Chief Medical Officer of IGM filed an FIR with local Police and alleged that Govinda Das attempted to kill Dr Debnath. In the FIR, the CMO alleged, Dr Debnath was abducted forcefully outside the Hospital with a ‘willful intention of killing him’. Dr Debnath received multiple grievous injuries all over the body and head. The doctor, however, was admitted to the GBP trauma centre and right now under observation in the ICU. Health Minister Sudip Roy Barman also rushed to hospital after the incident.
The Chief Minister has assured them that strict action will be taken and no one will be spared.
