Agartala, Oct 13: A Pakistani woman, who escaped from a Nepal jail during the recent Gen G uprising, was arrested at the Sabroom border in South Tripura while attempting to cross into Bangladesh on Saturday night.

According to police sources, the woman, identified as Sahina Parveen alias Louisnig Orthabhanu (55), hails from Yaganabad, Sheikhpura district, in the Punjab province of Pakistan. She had been serving a 15-year prison sentence in Nepal in connection with a drug trafficking case.

Taking advantage of the ongoing unrest in Nepal, the woman allegedly fled the jail with the help of a broker. She reportedly travelled through India via the Kanchenjunga Express railway route, intending to reach Bangladesh through Tripura.

However, police personnel at the Sabroom border intercepted her and foiled her escape attempt.

Senior police officials have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. The arrested woman will be produced before the Sabroom Sub-Divisional Court on Monday, officials confirmed.
