This year, the prestigious Pandit Deendayal National Solidarity Award will be awarded to the late Brajesh Chakraborty for his significant contributions to social work and public relations. The award will be presented during a ceremony commemorating the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay at Rabindra Bhavan on September 25 at 12:30 PM.
Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha will be in attendance. Launched in 2018 at the Agartala Book Fair, the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Solidarity Award is now given annually on the occasion of Deendayal Upadhyay’s birth anniversary. The award, which includes a cash prize of 1 lakh along with a certificate, recognizes individuals for their exceptional service to society. Notable previous recipients include Bikram Bahadur Jamatia, Prabhas Chandra Dhar, Piyush Kanti Chakraborty, Jayashree Sharma, Manoj Debroy, and late Dr. H.S. Roy Chowdhury from 2018 to 2023.Born in 1935 in Bishnupur, Noakhali district (now in Bangladesh), Brajesh Chakraborty was a philanthropist driven by nationalist ideals.
He received his early education at Ishwarchandra Vidyasagar School in Comilla and later at Netaji Subhash Vidyaniketan in Agartala. A graduate of MBB College, Chakraborty made remarkable contributions to the political and social landscape of Tripura, particularly in the upliftment of underprivileged communities. He passed away on October 4, 2014.
