Panisagar, Thursday: A tragic road accident in the Dasherkuti area under Panisagar police station on Thursday afternoon claimed the life of a pedestrian in his fifties.

The deceased has been identified as Nayan Ranjan Debnath. According to police sources, a six-wheeled truck traveling from Agartala to another state hit Debnath while he was crossing the road.

The impact threw him onto the road, leaving him critically injured. Locals immediately rushed him to the Panisagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, police detained the truck along with its driver, identified as Haripada Saha, and launched an investigation into the matter. The accident has triggered tension in the local area, prompting police to maintain vigil to prevent any untoward situation.
