The alleged police inaction in connection with the death case of ruling party youth leader Rahul Kishore Roy in Dharmanagar has triggered strong reactions among the state’s civil society and conscious citizens. Questions are now being raised over the functioning of the local administration and the effectiveness of law enforcement in the case.

According to allegations, despite serious accusations involving intimidation and alleged torture of Rahul Kishore Roy’s pregnant wife and mother during a late-night incident, no significant action has yet been taken against the accused. Residents have expressed concern over the role of Dharmanagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Meena Debbarma, claiming that similar allegations of inaction have surfaced in several earlier cases as well.

Public criticism has also been directed at North Tripura district Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai, with sections of the local community alleging that the administration has failed to act despite directions from the Chief Minister for a proper investigation and swift arrest of those involved.

Members of the civil society in Dharmanagar have questioned whether the rule of law is being properly upheld, alleging that individuals facing serious charges are not being dealt with firmly. Concerns have also been raised over whether the alleged delay in action is indirectly encouraging criminal activities in the region.
