West Pilak, Tripura – Residents of the West Pilak area have raised strong protests over excessive electricity bills following the installation of smart meters. Locals allege that the new billing system has turned into a financial burden for many families, especially those who depend on daily wage work for survival.
According to residents, the bills include inflated permanent charges, surcharges, and fuel charges, which far exceed actual electricity consumption. In one shocking instance, a bill of over ₹1 lakh was reportedly issued in the name of a single resident.
Angered by the situation, local residents have demanded immediate intervention from Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, as well as local MLA and minister Shuklacharan Noatia. They are urging the authorities to review the billing system and provide relief to affected families.
It remains to be seen what action the administration will take to address the growing discontent among the people of West Pilak.
