A rape survivor in Tripura has accused a magistrate of sexually abusing her inside his chamber in a court.
A panel led by Dhalai District and Sessions Judge Gautam Sarkar is investigating the allegation, which the woman claims occurred on February 16 when she visited the magistrate’s chamber in Kamalpur to have her statement recorded regarding her rape.
The woman filed a complaint with the additional district and sessions judge in Kamalpur, stating, “I visited the chamber of the first class judicial magistrate on February 16 to have my statement recorded. While I was about to give my statement, the judge groped me. I immediately left his chamber and informed the lawyers and my husband about the incident.”
Notably, her husband also lodged a separate complaint with the Kamalpur Bar Association regarding the incident.

District and Sessions Judge Gautam Sarkar, along with Chief Judicial Magistrate Satyajit Das, visited the additional district and sessions judge’s office in Kamalpur to investigate the survivor’s complaint.
The three-member panel, led by the district and sessions judge, also met with members of the Kamalpur Bar Association on the court premises.
Shibendra Dasgupta, secretary of the advocate body told media that they presented their views on the woman’s allegations to the panel.
