Record 228 Nominations have been received on the last day of nomination with zero violence: CEO Kiran Gitte

30 January was the last day to file nomination papers for the upcoming Tripura Assembly elections. On the last day today, 228 candidates have submitted their nomination papers in the state. Earlier, 77 people had submitted their nomination papers till January 27.

In all, 305 people have submitted nomination papers till date. Chief Electoral Officer of the state Kiran Gito gave this news in a press conference at West Tripura District Collector’s Conference Hall this evening. He told the press conference that on the last day of submission of nomination papers, adequate measures were taken by the Election Commission so that all the interested candidates can submit their nomination papers today.

Special care was taken to ensure that no one gets into trouble. No one informed the commission till evening about any problem regarding submission of nomination papers from any part of the state. Filing of nomination papers was completed in a peaceful atmosphere everywhere. The Chief Election Officer said that this is the Election Commission’s Zero Poll Violence.

In the press conference, the Chief Electoral Officer thanked everyone from all political parties for completing the nomination papers in a completely peaceful atmosphere.

He said that 297 candidates contested in the 2018 assembly elections. It will be clear how many candidates will be in the fray after the withdrawal period is over. He said the nomination papers will be checked tomorrow. The 25 observers who have already arrived in the state for the election will be present during the examination of nomination papers tomorrow.

The last day for withdrawal of nomination papers is February 2. The Chief Electoral Officer said that security arrangements are being made for all the candidates who have submitted their nomination papers, from today.
