72-Hour Blockade Disrupts Road and Rail Traffic in Tripura

Agartala: Normal life was disrupted across Tripura on Friday after surrendered insurgent groups launched a 72-hour statewide blockade demanding the implementation of the tripartite peace agreement and fulfillment of their charter of demands.

The blockade has affected both road and rail services, with protesters stopping vehicular movement along the Assam-Agartala National Highway. The highway was reportedly blocked at Hataikotor, causing disruption to traffic movement.

The protest has been called by three surrendered militant organisations — the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) (Original), NLFT (PD), and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF). The groups have raised demands concerning the implementation of the tripartite agreement signed with the Centre and the Tripura government in 2024, following their decision to surrender and lay down arms.

According to the organisations, several commitments made under the agreement remain unfulfilled. They have therefore resorted to the 72-hour blockade to press for implementation of the agreement and their demands.

Tripura Police said additional security personnel have been deployed at sensitive locations to prevent any untoward incident.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the blockade continues.
