Agartala, July 9: The state government will install smart meters free of cost at various locations across Tripura, including the residences of all cabinet ministers and the Chief Minister. This was announced by Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath at a press conference today.
The Power Minister informed that smart meters were installed at his residence earlier in the day. Tripura currently has over 10 lakh electricity consumers, of which smart meters have been installed in approximately 90,000 households so far.
“From today, smart meters will be installed at the residences of the Chief Minister and all cabinet ministers,” Nath said. He further added that the government has planned to gradually install smart meters in all government offices across the state.
In addition, the minister stated that the process of installing smart meters in the residences of 2,700 TSECL employees would be completed within the next seven days.
To facilitate efficient monitoring of the smart metering system, two dedicated office rooms have been set up in TSECL, which will be inaugurated shortly, Nath added.
