Balika Mancha scheme was launched in West Tripura district yesterday. In this scheme, empowered committee will be formed with girls in every high school and higher secondary school of the district. They will discuss various issues including education.
Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy inaugurated the scheme in a short programme at Muktadhara Auditorium yesterday. West Tripura District-level Workshop on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme was also held.
Inaugurating Balika Mancha scheme, Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy said that the objective of the state government is the overall development of women. But in this case women also need to have goals, desire and persistence. The state government is giving importance to the safety, health and nutrition of women. He said, currently the president of our country is a woman. There are 11 women ministers in the Union Cabinet.
Olympian Dipa Karmakar, Padma Shri Divyangjan mountaineer Arnima Sinha, Padma Shri Social Worker Subhashini Mishra are role models for girls today. He said that the number of women police stations in the state is being increased for the protection of women. There are women police volunteers. One stop centre has been launched. Mission Batsalya scheme is operational in the state. Balika Mancha has been launched today.
The Social Welfare Minister said that there are currently 40,000 self-help groups in the state. A loan of about 400 crore rupees loan has been given so that the women of self-help groups can stand on their own. Earlier, bicycles were given to SC and ST girls of class IX. Now every girl student of class 9 is given bicycle. Girls are ahead in sports today. Recently, teams were sent for 13 events ie the National School Meet and Janjati Mahotsav.

In his speech as the special guest, In- charge Subhdahipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad, Haridulal Acharya said, today women are coming forward in every work along with men. District Magistrate of West Tripura Debapriya Bardhan, District Education Officer Rupan Roy also spoke on the occasion.
Welcome speech was given by Joint Director of Social Welfare and Social Education Department Chandrani Biswas. Certificates, books and mementos were presented to 32 meritorious students from West Tripura district who obtained good results in Madhyamik and Higher Secondary examinations in 2023.
Apart from this, on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education, under Mission Batsalyn scheme, financial assistance of 4 thousand rupees is given to each of the 5 needy girls for education, health and nutritious food. The guests including the Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education handed over the award and financial assistance to them.
