Surrendered LFT Rebels Block National Highway in Teliamura Over Rehabilitation Demands; Minister Intervenes

TELIAMURA — A national highway blockade staged by surrendered members of the LFT in the Sadhupara area of Hatai Kotar caused brief disruption before being lifted following the intervention of Minister Bikash Debbarma.

The protesters, who surrendered under a seven-point charter of demands, alleged that they were not properly informed about the government’s rehabilitation packages and post-surrender facilities. Claiming long-standing dissatisfaction with the lack of resolution, they resorted to blocking the national highway.

Surrendered rebels stated that a lack of clarity and delay in implementing rehabilitation benefits forced them to take direct action after repeated grievances went unresolved.

Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma met with the demonstrators and assured them that a dedicated meeting would be held on August 21 to address and resolve their seven-point demands in detail

Addressing the situation, Minister Bikash Debbarma emphasized that road blockades do not offer permanent solutions to grievances and urged all parties to rely on constructive dialogue.

He reiterated that the government remains deeply committed to the socio-economic advancement and welfare of the tribal community and assured that the demands of the surrendered LFT members would be considered with utmost priority.

All eyes are now on the upcoming August 21 meeting to see whether a consensus will be reached or if further protests will ensue.
