Traders at the busy Durga Chowmuhani vegetable market in Agartala have been facing severe difficulties due to disruption of electricity service for the past three consecutive days. According to traders, the electricity connection was snapped following rainfall on Sunday morning, and no repair work has been carried out by the electricity department till Tuesday.
The prolonged power outage has badly affected daily business activities in the market. Traders alleged that they are unable to charge electronic weighing machines due to the lack of electricity, causing major inconvenience in conducting transactions.
Market vendors further claimed that despite repeatedly contacting the electricity department, officials have continued to delay action by assuring them that the issue would be checked soon. However, no concrete steps have reportedly been taken so far to restore the service.
The continued disruption has sparked anger among traders, who on Tuesday strongly criticized the alleged negligence and irresponsible attitude of the electricity department. They demanded immediate restoration of power supply to avoid further losses and inconvenience in the market.
